Saving the rainforest one banana at a time…

Saving the rainforest one banana at a time...

Yesterday I went on a field trip for my tropical ecology class to Villa Blanca, a sustainable hotel. When we arrived they gave each of us machetes and burlap sacks and we were sent into the forest to remove an invasive banana species. There is this pink banana that was planted by one of the ex president of Costa Rica’s wife and now it is totally invading the forest near Villa Blanca. We all marched toward the forest in our rubber boots, machetes in hand and chopped all the bananas in sight. It was definitely an exciting start to my day! Not many people can say the removed an invasive species before!
